Made for use in a type of muzzle loader called a zimmerstutzen, these caps have been sometimes used to ignite powder charges in other styles of muzzleloaders. Note that they have a rim similar to rim fire ammo. URL=http://s672.photobucket.com/user/longcaribiner/media/2mmrimfirecaps_zps511b03ad.jpg.html] [/URL]

BTW: on German caps you will see the word "Zundhutchen" quite literally, it means little ignition hats. Zund = ignition and hutchen = little hats You will also often see the term Vorderlader which means "forward loader" i.e. muzzle loader
