CVA side lock firearms with hooked breech systems are constructed by threading and installing the breech plug and then by cross threading the percussion drum (or flint touch hole) through the barrel wall and across the breech plug. This creates a very strong breech system but also means that removal of the drum and breech plug will partially damage the threads and becomes extremely difficult to re-install to its original position. Even an experienced gun smith can encounter problems trying to reinstall the breech and drum. Here is a picture of the system as shown in their Catalogs
