I had never heard of Goldmark before. However, their caps were sold by Stoeger's in 1947. The 1947 cat. lists Goldmark caps in the following sizes: 10, 11, 12 and musket. Dr. Joseph Goldmark was a chemist and physician, born in Poland and educated in Hungary. He was a member of the Austrian Parliament and was a leader of the failed revolution of 1848 against the Hapsbergs. The Revolution was crushed and Dr. Goldmark fled eventually arriving in New York in the 1850's. He discovered the ignition properties of red phosphorus and obtained a patent in connection with percussion caps. He established a company to manufacture percussion caps and in 1859 won a US Gov't contract to supply percussion caps. Goldmark cap tins are sometimes dated with the year of manufacture and I found pictures of tins dated as early as 1850. In 1879 his company was owned by one of Winchester's subdivisions. I found pictures of Goldmark caps marked Western Cartridge Company and other pictures saying Olin. 4 of his 9 children became prominent US citizens, one marrying SCOTUS Justice Brandeis.
